The analysis highlighted that British Columbia's interior regions have seen streamflow levels drop to historically low percentiles during late summer months, with some watersheds recording conditions that would previously have been classified as once-in-fifty-year events now appearing with far greater regularity. Provincial drought monitoring, which uses a five-level severity scale, has repeatedly reached Level 4 and Level 5 designations — the two most severe categories — across multiple drainage basins simultaneously, a compounding effect that strains response capacity.
